
2012 Arbor Day Poster Contest
The winner of the 2012 North Carolina Arbor Day Poster Contest, "Trees are Terrific…and Forests are Too", is Shay Smithwick, a fifth grade student at Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston. Shay will be presented with a $250 savings bond from the N.C. Forestry Association at an Arbor Day ceremony on March 16, 2012 at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh. Shay’s teacher, Ms. Judy Johnson will also receive $200 from Duke Energy for the purchase of school supplies. Second and third place winners, Charlie Tulevech from St. Egbert School in Morehead City and Will Parker from Grace Christian School in Raleigh will also be honored and presented with prizes.
The public is invited to attend the Arbor Day celebration from 2p.m. to 6 p.m. at the State Farmers Market. The poster contest presentation will take place at 4:30p.m.
